Insulated Concrete Forms House: ICF

The above images are of a house that is made through a genius method. After the concrete slab on the ground is placed, you take styrofoam bricks that have a hollow inside and stack them. Then you add rebar frames inside to support it.

After setup is complete and you align where you want your windows and entrances, you pour concrete mix down the middle of the styrofoam bricks. A machine vibrates the Styrofoam so the entire insides gets covered in concrete mix.

This structure has many key features:

  • The styrofoam works as insulation and stud. You can nail into any spot on the walls now
  • The insulation lowers your electricity bill since you don't need to cool down or heat your house as much as you previously needed to in a traditionally built house.
  • The styrofoam will never degrade. it will last a very long time.
  • The styrofoam can be covered with any type of wall on both the inside and outside of your house.
  • The entire structure can survive many natural disasters and can survive a house fire for 4 hours.

Evergreen Life Services

Building better lives
one day at a time.

We are currently supporting Evergreen in becoming a resource in Bowie Texas. They assist adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. One of our projects is to convert the old Bowie ISD building to an adult habilitation center.

These are pictures of what Evergreen looks like currently. As we make more progress, we plan to add more pictures of what has been renovated. There is a lot to be done here, so there will be many new pictures in the future.

The above pictures are of the potential training rooms. These rooms will be used to teach people life skills that are needed to either do jobs or other various tasks. Most of these rooms look pretty clean compared to the previous slideshow, but even these rooms need a lot of work.
